Reina/Wolf: The Potion

by Jaded-Night

Some ideas were meant to be erased.

Date One: Dating an incredibly old man who doesn’t look old but sure acts it

Some ideas were meant to never actually be placed into action – those ideas, unlike good ideas, will explode.

Jade juggled a bottle around in her hands that was catching Reina’s interest as Jade approached her.

“I’ve found the perfect solution,” Jade said, “to Wolf being such a ‘stick in the mud’.”

“Solution? I didn’t realize we were looking for a solution to anything,” Reina said, “is it in that bottle?”

“Yes, yes it is.” She set it down on a table next to the couch Reina was curled up on. “A love potion.”

“What?” Reina’s light blue eyes stared at Jade in disbelief. “Those really exist?”

“Of course,” Jade said, “why wouldn’t they?”

“I don’t know… I’ve always thought they were just… imaginary. How on earth does it even work?”

“It’s magic. If there are shape shifters and vampires and men that live forever, can’t there be witches?”

“I suppose…” she sat up finally, adjusting herself to move closer to the bottle. It was in a red tinted bottle so she wasn’t sure the exact color of it, but it was light in color since it was rather see through. There was no writing on the bottle. Was it really a love potion?

“Just dump a little of this into a drink he’s drinking and wa-la, Wolf will be in love.”

“How do you know it works?”

“I don’t. But I’m sure it does. If it doesn’t, well, it was worth a shot?”

“Well, how does it work? Is there anything special to it?”

“Nope. Well, you want to be sure you’re the first and only one he sees for a little while after he drinks it – whoever drinks it gets attached to that person, or something like that. But, no worries on that, I’ve made sure you two will be alone for a while.”

“How am I supposed to get Wolf to drink something?”

“No worries! I’ve already been stalking him for the morning and know exactly what glass he has been using.” Her bright green eyes were enthusiastic and daring. Reina wondered if this was more for Jade’s amusement than anything else. “Which is why right now I am going to go distract him and you are going to go dump some of that in. Not too much, though, or he might go a little mad.”

“Mm. Is this safe?”

“Of course it’s safe.”

“Alright, if you insist,” she said with a shrug. Of course, she was a little excited about it. What if it did make Wolf magically know how to actually love someone? Not just someone, but her. She never thought it would happen or be anywhere near possible, but, there was a small chance that little bottle held the key.

She followed Jade into the living room where Wolf was sitting in a chair, a newspaper in hand. Of course he could turn on the TV, but that wasn’t Wolf’s style on being up to date. Reina could have done without wasting paper when everything was also online. But, Wolf was a little slow on times. She wondered if perhaps that potion would magically make him more up to date. Would he still talk weird? Would it make him love like she wanted him to love?

Somehow Jade lured him out of the room; Reina hadn’t been paying attention to her at all since she was far too busy thinking about whether or not she should pull through with the plan. She did, though, when she realized she needed to act fast before Wolf realized Jade was just being an annoyance as usual and retreated to his newspaper and tea again.

Quickly, Reina dashed across the room from where she had been idly standing and dumped the bottle in his tea. She realized then that in her panic she dumped the entire bottle, not just a little bit as Jade had instructed.

“Oh no.” She said, wondering if she should dump it out or leave it go. After all, there was no telling how much Jade paid for it, she couldn’t waste it, could she?

“But I can’t kill Wolf either.” She started to pick his tea up before she realized she wasn’t alone in the room anymore. She turned around and Wolf was standing there, giving her a displeased look over.

“I would rather not question what troubling idea led you to hover around my space while I was dealing with a minor annoyance,” he said, “but I do ask that you remove yourself from there as I do not intend to deal with further annoyances this morning.”

“Oh, yeah, sorry,” Reina said quickly and ducked out of the room where Jade was waiting for her in the kitchen.

“Jade! I dumped the whole bottle!”

“You did what?” Jade asked, but didn’t need to repeat herself as Reina held up the bottle that was obviously empty.

“Reina, I said a little bit!”

“I know, but… I was under pressure and I forgot and dumped the whole thing so I could get out of there quickly!”

“Wow. This is.. going to be fun,” Jade decided. She smirked. “Your mess up could quite possibly be very fun. I should get my video camera.”

“Jade!”

“We can show it to him later once it wears off and he forgets all that happened. Oh, I would love to see his face.”

“Jade, no.”

“Why not? Don’t want him to be embarrassed? Tch. Who cares with the way he treats you. He deserves it. He should be begging on his knees for you in the first place.”

“I don’t know about that…”

“What does it matter right now! You need to get out there so we can make sure he sees you before anyone else.” She shoved at Reina to get her moving. Reina groaned.

“I really don’t think this is a good idea.”

“Too late, it’s already in motion. Go on, go have fun!”

“I don’t know if this will be fun, what if he explodes or something for feeling too much love?”

“Well, good riddance? I don’t know. I doubt someone could explode from such a thing.”

“Wolf might.”

Jade rolled her eyes and then narrowed them at Reina. Reina got the hint and gave a sigh before revealing herself in the other room.

“So, what’s in the news?” Reina asked Wolf as she entered the room. She noticed he had just set his cup down and she could feel her stomach twisting at the thought of what it might do to him in a few moments.

He glanced up at her then glanced down at the paper again quickly. It wasn’t an angry type of gesture, though. He didn’t look angry, anyway, he looked more nervous.

“Fine, ignore me.”

“I do not wish to be rude,” he said, not looking at her while he spoke, “I must go for now though, I have business to attend to.” He got up and walked out of the room, again not glancing her way as though if he looked at her again something might happen. Oh no, what if he knows? Maybe he knows if he looks at me that stuff will work! But how would he have figured it out?

Jade entered the room a moment later.

“He did look at you, didn’t he?”

“Yes, but then he acted all weird and ran off. Are you sure that wasn’t repellant you fed him?”

“Yes, I’m sure.”

“Well it doesn’t work at all.”

“How can you be sure? Maybe he ran out to buy you flowers.”

“Or he ran out to go burst into flames.”

“Aw, I’m missing the show if that’s the case. Maybe we should go look for him.” Jade smiled and Reina glared at her.

“There’s no need for that.” Crevan walked in the room, followed by Wolf. “Wolf, this is my friend Reina, Reina, this is Wolf…” Crevan looked as confused as Reina and Jade both felt. Jade wanted to laugh, but she thought possibly this wasn’t a funny matter because Wolf really did lose it.

“I know?” Reina said. “Why are you…”

“He wanted me to introduce you,” Crevan said, “no idea.”

Wolf seemed oblivious to their confusion and instead of getting frustrated like he always seemed to he ignored their questioning and went into his introduction.

“It’s a pleasure to be presented with one such as yourself,” he said with a slight bowing gesture.

Jade and Reina both looked at each other, eyes wide. He was losing it.

“Uh, thanks?” Reina murmured.

“Please forgive me but I wish to skip a few steps and well…” He paused to think. He seemed nervous again to her, which was odd for him.

“Skip a few steps?” She felt her face heat up. Jade what on Earth have you caused…

“Yes, I believe I would like to skip a few steps in our forthcoming and get straight to where I believe our probable futures will lead us.”

“Uh, Wolf… I don’t think you really want to be skipping steps or anything.” Reina was really embarrassed, especially with Crevan and Jade staring at them.

“I do quite believe we are ready for it, if you will only take my stance on the situation and agree we can pursuit what lies before us.”

“No, really, I don’t…”

“Please take my offer to go for a stroll, I ensure you I know the best vistas and will give you a most impressive time. What do you say?”

“A stroll?” Reina felt a ton of relief. Why was he making such a big deal out of a walk?

“Please forgive me if I’ve come forward too strong for your liking, I did move quite hastily into this action and I don’t wish to have you feel as though you need to comply if you’re not ready for such a move.”

“A walk? Wolf, people walk together all the time. I can handle a walk.”

“Then shall we be off?”

“Uh, sure…” she glanced at Jade. Jade was nearly laughing. Reina didn’t find it funny, more so she found it strange and uncomfortable. Why on Earth was he taking her for a walk? What if that potion made him want to do more after the walk? What if he was taking her somewhere where they would really be skipping steps? She felt her stomach drop as Wolf walked out of the room, leading the way to her uncertain future. Crevan watched idly, his expression giving way to nothing but the same confusion she had seen on his face earlier. She wondered if Jade would explain what they did – she wondered then if Crevan would come save her if he thought it was a bad idea.

“So, where are we going?” She asked once they were outside.

“We will be partaking on a walk to the places I feel suit this evening.”

“Right.” Definitely didn’t fix his ability to make no sense at all.

They didn’t talk at all; she assumed Wolf was just being his usual unsociable self, which made her wonder exactly how much that love potion really worked. It did make him go on a walk with her, but, that wasn’t a big deal. Had she only put a little bit in there she figured he might have only given a slight nod of acknowledgment that she existed. He’s so cold he defies magic even.

She decided it would be best to test this love potion out a little farther. She eased her way closer to him; something he normally would have fled from in an instant, he didn’t seem to take notice of. Hey, maybe it is working!

“If I may gesture some support over this poorly maintained road?” He said. It startled her and she jumped since she had been planning to maneuver her way into testing out the potential of that potion.

“What?” She glanced down at the road, surely it was a little rough, it was in the middle of the city though, it was expected the road wouldn’t be perfect, but, she had walked down it before, it was no surprise to her. “Oh, no, I…” she started to decline until she understood exactly what he was offering. “Oh, well, yes, that would be nice.”

He offered her his hand in the simplest gesture. Reina was almost afraid to take it – she was afraid he would give her some speech about being improper or such. She did take it, though, after all he was offering. It never failed to surprise her how cold he was to the touch, she almost pulled her hand back at the iciness of his, but the cool quickly settled and she ignored it as best possible.

She let it go for a little while like that until it crossed her mind that he did make a move on her, so it was certainly fair for her to play it up another step, wasn’t it? She could take advantage of him while he was drugged up on love, if whatever type of a date he was taking her on was even considered as such.

She twirled herself around in front of him and he immediately halted. He gave her a questioning glance but she didn’t give him enough time to think before she flung herself at him with her arms wide open.

However, she didn’t get the icy hug she was hoping for, instead she tumbled a few steps into thin air before regaining composure with a very angry Wolf staring her down.

“That is a most inappropriate advance you just tested. I will have no such demeaning actions placed upon myself and nor will I allow you to degrade yourself in such a disrespectful notion.”

Reina blinked at him and sighed. Either the potion wore off, or, this was just Wolf. No matter what.
