The Cuteness

When she woke up and saw the white flecks in the air she got out of bed and ran to the window to look outside. She grinned when she saw the snow had piled up over night. Everything was covered in the sleek white. The whole world was transformed. And this was the first time she had seen it right before her eyes. The real thing.

"Thomas!" She said, helping herself into his room, smiling. "It snowed, just like they said it would."

"Isla?" He said tiredly, sitting up. She must have been a little too excited about the snow. He thought with a smile. "Yeah?"

"Mhm." She nodded. "We should go outside."

"I think we have to eat breakfast first."

"After?"

"I’ll see." He said with a small laugh, getting up to go out to the kitchen. "Mind if we go outside for a little before we eat?" He asked Molly. "Isla hasn’t seen snow before."

"Oh. Sure." She smiled. "She’ll want to be done with it after a few minutes anyway I’m sure."

"Possibly." He laughed.

"Well, have fun."

"We will." He said before he went to get Isla. "Ok, we can do breakfast later if you really want to."

"Ok." She smiled. "The snow looks like so much fun."

"It’s cold and wet," he joked, "but it can be fun."

"Let’s go then." She said before she ran outside.

She picked up a handful of snow off the railing. "It’s so pretty." She said, a moment before shaking it off her hand when the cold started sinking in. "And cold."

He laughed. "I told you about the cold."

"Hopefully my feet can handle it." She said before she shifted, shaking her clothes off before jumping off the porch into the snow. It was up to her chest and felt weird to be standing in. She barked excitedly before shoving her face in the snow, lifting her head up a moment after and snorting, snow scattering.

Thomas laughed, watching her for a little while before shifting to join in. He had played in the snow plenty of times before, but even to him it was exciting, being the first time of the year. He ran through the snow while she stood and watched him, uncertain about how to maneuver through it. She took a few steps, lifting her legs up really high to clear the snow. She stopped again when she realized that was getting her nowhere anytime soon.

She barked at him, frustrated and confused. He ran over to her, clearing a path for her to walk through before bounding off in a different direction. She walked through where he was running. It was much easier to just follow him around, though she wanted to play in the deep stuff, too. After a while of following him she decided to just try pushing through it like he was doing. It worked just fine while she ran - the snow was a bit difficult to run through, but it fell apart easily for her.

Now that she was getting the hang of it she was flying all over the yard, jumping and charging through the snow. She chased after Thomas, and when she caught up to him she dipped her head into the snow to fling some at him. He barked at her, wagging his tail.

She started shivering not too long after. The cold was getting to her, her fur soaked with the melted snow that had clung to her. And her feet were getting really cold. She whined now, sitting down to bite at the snow that was still stuck to her legs. Thomas walked over to her and nudged at her a little before running up to the porch and barking for Molly to let them in.

When Isla got inside she just flopped down right inside the door to pick at the snow that was stuck to her. Thomas went over to her to lay down next to her to try to help warm her up since she was shaking pretty badly.

"I knew you’d get cold." Molly said with a small laugh, grabbing a blanket to throw over them. "If you go shift back, though, you’ll get dried off and warmed up a lot faster."

Isla sighed after the blanket was over her and just curled up with Thomas until she was warmed up enough that she wanted to bother with getting up to go shift back.

Even after she did, she was still cold. She went and sat next to Thomas on the couch, leaning against him for warmth.

"Are you ok?" He asked, tentatively putting an arm around her once he was certain Wolf wasn’t around.

"Yeah, just really cold. But it was fun." She smiled.

"It is pretty fun, huh?"

"Mhm." She said, resting her head against him once she was starting to get comfortable again. "And as cold as it was I know I’ll go out and do it again later."

"That’s good." He smiled. "I had fun too."

"This is pretty nice, too." She said, smiling up at him.

"Just trying to help you warm up." He said.

"It makes for a good excuse at least." She said, closing her eyes as she curled up closer against him.
